Like learning a new language. There are a couple of vocabulary words you should probably know if you're planning on reading through this site.
Fonon: Think of them as something similar elements. Everything is made up of elements and fonons; the latter allow people to perform fonic arts and that sort of thing. The fonons each have a certain alignment. Those are, respectively, darkness, earth, wind, water, fire, and light. There is a mysterious 7th fonon that little is known about except that those who are able to use it often possess miraculous skills of healing and other such powers. The collective 7th fonon is referred to as "Lorelei".
Fonstone: When Yulia read the score -- that is, predicted the complete future of Auldrant, it was put down on these fonstones. So by reading these, the future can be told. This is at the heart of the religion in the game.
Lorelei: The collective "consciousness" of the 7th fonon is referred to as Lorelei. The religion in the game is presided over by the church, which is called the Order of Lorelei.
Qliphoth: Kind of a basement of the planet. Underneath the crust of the planet is a horrid place floating on the mantle, which is referred to as the Qliphoth. There is only one city here, Yulia City, which helps the Order of Lorelei.
Replica: Basically, a clone of something made through a process called fomicry. At first, it was believed that humans were too complex to replicate, but this turned out to be false later down the line.
Score: The score is the memories of the planet Auldrant. By reading the score, the future of the entire planet and everything on it can be known. Thus, citizens all over the world constantly have their scores read and are obsessive able living by it. (ie: if a person's score says that they won't eat beef that day, they go out of their way to avoid beef) Wars and destruction of entire cities are also told in the score, which is one of the things at the core of the conflict in the story.
