†Appearance:
It surely seems Jade doesn't enjoy to be noticed by people and this is the main reason why his costumes aren't that eccentric or appealing, but quite simple and comfortable. Before proceding with his costumes, lets's spend a few words on some sides of his appearences.
Jade surely looks younger than he is, although being 35 doesn't imply any decandence on a human body, although it could be an option in Jade's case, knowing which experiments he did on his own persona to eventually reach a better knowledge and control of Fonic Artes. He is indeed a handsome and charming person, as Tear and Natalia admits in a particular occasion.
Jade wears glasses even if he doesn't need them: he actually uses them to control his fonic localization on his body, which actually happen to be placed in his eyes (he wasn't born with red eyes of course, it's a side effect of Fonic Artes). By artificially increasing his potential, he needs to find a way to control the fonons flowing through his body and this is the method he had to choice.
The question is...why does he need to wear glasses at the end of the game, when he's supposed to have lost most of his potential (a storywise explanation)?
His uniform as Colonel of the 3rd Malkuth Division, a simple one, which consists of a light-blue coat (somehow elaborated and that reminds a sailor-like uniform), with yellow/golden borders and those ridicolous but cute big yellow button (which reminds a lot pac-man). He also wears a leather belt, a pair of blue long gloves, blue high boots and let me guess...a pair of black trousers (because I want to believe it isn't tights). It isn't probably an elegant outfit, but it's surely comfortable.

†Personality:
Jade has a very complexed personality. In short terms you an say that he sacrifices feelings to reason and logic, but there's a lot more to tell about him. Due to his attitude towards people, to the easy way in which he teases the others, it's really difficult to understand what he really thinks about those who gets along with him, or even about his enemies. He hides all his sentiments and thoughts behind his behaviour, oftenly smiling, but never warmly.
He barely loses his cool, he's always calm and collected (in the whole game he loses his temper only once) and nothing really scarse him, or maybe nothing really compromises his self-control. He mainly acts following his reason and trying to avoid any kind of sentimental involvement on what he's doing. Because of this aspect of his personality he's often misunderstood, called "monster" because he can't be easilly touched by events, dramatic or happy, even if they concerns people dear to him. He also has a sort of lazy side as he avoids activities he doesn't really like shielding himself with his "old" age (like doing merely physical activities). He doesn't truly think he's old, since he affirms that he hasn't formed yet his own character and that he can perseve in his attempts until the age of 40 (also adding he wants to drive the youths crazy). He's not that proud of himself and he is way modest in considering his knowledge and abilities, probably because he still needs to learn, if not from books, from people, as he later understands. He only complains how much people don't take him too seriously (but this is part of his ironic side).
Jade has an extremely deep interest for Fonic Artes, his strongest passion since he was a child. He confesses to his friends that he was tempted to become a doctor (you may guess which type, since he wants to examine Mieu), but at the end he switched to something more similar to a scholar, even if he entered the military. He doesn't either give an explanation to his choice to become a soldier of the Malkuth Army, he doesn't probably think he needs any reason to justify his career. Jade doesn't trust those he meets too easilly: people need to gain his trust, showing not their worth, but at least their intentions (anyway Jade can easilly understand the others by just watching at them). He's someone who doesn't like to waste time and despite his irony and his hints he doesn't really mean to create fights inside the party, and he mainly tries to keep his friends cool. He's clever and he doesn't stand that much those who're too ignorant, not in terms of knowledge or compherension, but in matter of will (this is why he can't keep up with Luke, at the beginning, and why he's satisfied with him at the end, because he really proved that someone can change, if he really wants to).
He also finds boring to give simple and elemental explanations, always forwarding this duty to someone else (Guy for example). His sarcasm doesn't really help him in get people appreciation, also because he doesn't to pretend to be different than how he is, he's too honest with himself after all.
†Weapon(s):
It is interesting to point out the explanation he gives to Luke about how he can make his lance disappear while he isn't involved in battles. He basically disassemble the fonons of his weapon to make them be assimilated by the most external layer of his arm. It isn't an easy process, only someone experted as Jade, in fonic arts, can be successful. But Uses normal spear or Blood Pain.

†History:
Jade Curtiss has the rank of Colonel in the Malkuth Army. Despite his abilities and his potential, he refuses an advancement in his career to the rank of General, because he's satisfied with his current position (as he states major responsabilities would keep him even busier).
He's nicknamed "Jade the Necromancer" by his enemies (and even by his comrades) because of his abilities in Fonic Artes and mainly because it is said he has a strange ability to collect the bodies of his fallen enemies (although it isn't true) and due to some tales of his studies to bring dead people back to life. He's also the best friend of the Malkuth Emperor, Peony IX and also his "right arm". He is introduced as Luke and Tear are trying to get back to Baticul, as he is trying to accomplish his mission of Ambassador of Peace, riding the Tartarus (his landship) to the capital of Kimlasca, bringing with him Fon Master Ion, the spiritual leader of the Church of Lorelai. His missioni s to deliver a letter to King Ingobert in order to avoid an upcoming war between the two nations. He is involved in the main events since the beginning and his presence is vital in the story developments. As the story goes on, many information are given about his past and his involvements in Van Grants plans. Jade, whos real name is Jade Balfour, is actually the "father" of Fomicry, that particular science which involves the creation of replicas, or well creatures with the same characteristics of their originals, except for their fonons composition, since replicas are made with the seventh fonons (there are a few exception though, like Luke, who's a perfect copy of his original).
Jade founded the principles of Fomicry when he was only a child: his sister Nefry broke a doll and instead of repairing it he made a copy of it. He wasn't properly a quiet child, he was instead cruel, he was enjoying himself in seeing people suffering and he found the death of defensesless monsters quite amusing. His sister refered to hi mas someone who couldn't really understand the difference between life and death and probably appreciate their meanings. He was able to change thanks to the efforts of the Locrian Colonel Gelda Nebilim, who retired from service and moved to Keterburg, where she opened a school and become the teacher of Jade, Nephry, Dist, and Peony. Jade's thirst of knowledge was still too strong. He was ambitious and he wanted to master the usage of the Seventh Fonon, although he wasn't able to acquire it. His experiment was a failure: he caused a fire which took the life of Prof. Nebilim. Jade, encouraged by Saphir, tried to create a replica of Nebilim, in his first attempt to copy a human being through the usage of the First through the Seventh Fonons.
That method determined the menthal deterioration of Nebilim's faculties and she went mad, becoming a mindless destroyer, someone who could take life withouth any real reason. The replica suddenly disappeared (before Jade could try to exterminate her) and she was lately sealed on a crack, in the area of Mount Roneal (a side-quest is completely dedicated to this side of Jade's past). Due to this experience, and thanks to Peony advices, Jade decided to give up his Fomicry researches and to condamn them: he first thought as Fomicry as a way to defeat death, but he understood that replicas aren't a way to prolong the life of an individual, as him and his friend believed. Saphir (or well Dist) didn't accept the truth and he instead went ahead in his studies, developing that science and sticking to the Seventh Fonons theory (making replica using only that kind of fonons), with the aim to make an other copy of Nebilim.
Years passed and Jade was adopted by the Curtiss family, one of the most important and influent in the Malkuth Military. He then moved to Grand Chokmah.
Jade was hunting the Dark Wings in the Tartarus when he passed the coach that Luke and Tear were in, he later met them in Engeve when Luke was accused of being a thief, he was escorting Ion to Baticul as a emissary of peace and introduces himself.
Jade comes into the picture during the battle with the Liger Queen, using his fonic artes to easily defeat the Liger Queen and then capture Luke and Tear on the way out of the Cheagle Woods and learning of Luke and Tear's purpose after interrogating them and asking Luke for his assistance, even to the point of swallowing his pride and kneeling to him, to Luke's annoyance.
The Tartarus came under attack from the God Generals and Largo attacked Jade, Tear and Luke, using a fon slot seal on Jade, Jade still wounded Largo and stabbed him.
Later when Asch attacked and knocked Luke and Tear unconcious with Icicle Rain, Jade was the only one of the three who remained conscious as they were captured.
Upon the escape of the Tartarus, Jade attacked and held Arietta hostage to stop Legretta from continuing her attack, he then repeated this method after being knocked away from her by a Liger.
[wip]
Thanks to Luke and his friends, he finally realized that a replica isn't a mere copy of a person, but an individual with own feelings, experiences and opinions. His theories were used by Van for his own goals, but were also able to bring hope for the whole planet.
As the game ends, it comes time for the party to battle Van in order to free Lorelei and halt the creation of a world of replicas. While Jade's character and motives remain largely ambiguous (to say the least) to the very end of the game, it's obvious that he wants to stop Van's replica world and most importantly, "take back fomicry." Seeing Van's perversion of replication combined with Luke's struggle to become his own person gave rise to a desire to stop fomicry from being exploited, but not necessarily stopped altogether.
So not only is the final battle a struggle to stop Van's goals, but a struggle against the use of fomicry for negative purposes. Jade had also been to one to command the gathering of replica data from the people of Hod, and if Jade leads the party without Luke or Tear, Van states that, "your replicas advanced research into hyperresonance and caused the destruction of Hod. And at the same time, they have become the way to free the world from the Score." For Jade, the final battle is also a fight against the misuse of multiple things that he was responsible for.
Following Van's defeat, it's left up to Luke to release Lorelei. The party says what they hope aren't goodbyes, and Jade (awkwardly) reveals that he does in fact want Luke to return, for Luke's sake but also for his own as well.
"…that’s why you must come back alive. Or rather, I hope you do."
On Luke's twentieth birthday (presumably two years after fighting Van), the party returns to Tataroo Valley and catches sight of a red haired figure in the field of selenia flowers. And for the first time, we see Jade with what looks like a sincere smile.
